Frequently Asked Questions
-
1. How does FenSal™ work?FenSal™ is an immunoassay test for detecting drugs in oral fluid. It uses a chromatographic absorbent device where drugs bind to antibody-dye conjugates. A colored line at the Test Region (T) indicates a negative result, while the absence of this line suggests a potential positive result. A Control Region (C) line confirms proper test execution.
-
2. What are the advantages of oral vs. urine drug testing?Oral tests like FenSal Rapid™ detect recent drug use more quickly (3-5 minutes), are easier to administer, and are less invasive compared to urine tests, which require specific facilities and may involve privacy concerns.
-
3. How much saliva is required for the test?About 1 to 2 mL of saliva is needed. Collection typically takes 3 to 5 minutes, and placing the tip under the tongue is recommended.
-
4. How long does it take to get enough saliva?Collection time varies but typically requires 3 to 5 minutes. Hydration and proper positioning (head lowered, tip under the tongue) can help.
-
5. Can dehydration affect saliva production and collection?Yes, dehydration can impact saliva production. Hydrating 15 minutes before the test can improve results.
-
6. Can eating or drinking before the test impact results?Yes, it can dilute or mask drug presence. Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or using oral hygiene products for 15 minutes before the test.
-
7. What does a positive or negative test result look like?A negative result shows a colored line in the Test Region (T); a positive result lacks this line. The Control Region (C) line should always appear if the test is valid.
-
8. Why is there no line for a positive result and a line for a negative one? This is a standard design in many drug tests to indicate negative results. Training and orientation materials explain this feature.
-
9. How long should a person wait for results once the indicator is apparent? Results should appear within 3-5 minutes. If no result is visible after 5 minutes, the cassette tip can be submerged in the buffer solution (provided) until color appears in all 4 channels.
-
10. Why are some lines more intense or variable in width?Line intensity or width does not affect result interpretation. Detailed guidance is included in the package insert and training materials.
-
11. What variants or drugs can FenSal™ detect?FenSal™ detects 9 drugs and can be expanded to include additional drugs based on demand. The 9 drugs include: fentanyl (FTY), oxycodone (OXY), phencyclidine (PCP), methamphetamine (MET), cocaine (COC), amphetamines (AMP), methadone (MTD), opiates (MOP), and cannabinoids (THC). The Chain of Custody (F-CoC) form lists additional clinical drugs that can be confirmed.
-
12. How long after collection can a sample be sent for confirmation?Aim to send the sample to FedEx within 12 hours, with confirmation results available within 72 hours after receipt at the lab.
-
13. How long is the FenSal™ test cassette viable? The cassette remains viable until the expiration date, typically two years from the manufacturing date.
-
14. Why is the THC cutoff level higher than some state limits? The 200 ng/mL cutoff prioritizes recent use detection rather than residual levels. Lower thresholds are used for precise laboratory methods during the confirmation process.
-
15. Have you validated tests for other drugs like GHB or ecstasy?Currently, FenSal™ has a test for Xylazine. Other drugs are under consideration, with a development timeline of 4-5 months for new tests.
